Washington, D.C. is one of my favorite places to visit. It’s something about the food, the people, and the atmosphere that I absolutely love. It’s one of the few places within the U.S. that I don’t mind visiting over and over again.
I’ve compiled a list of things to do, restaurants to try, and hotel recommendations that I enjoyed. This is by no means a comprehensive list, just a few of my personal suggestions to help you on your next trip to D.C.
Things To Do
There are so many things to do in D.C. with most of them being FREE. One of my favorite things to do is visit the monuments and museums. I wouldn’t consider myself a history buff, but some elements of history do interest me.

- Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial
- Lincoln Memorial
- Washington Monument
- Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial
- Jefferson Memorial
- World War II Memorial
- Theodore Roosevelt Island National Memorial
- FDR Memorial
If you’re into the memorials and want to see more, I would suggest researching and getting on one of the many bus tours that Washington, D.C. has. On these tours, they take you to the most popular memorials. They share background information and history as well as let you get off to take pictures and wander around. It’s also a great way to see the city.
There are also several museums in D.C. with most all being free. My personal favorites are:
- National Museum of African American History and Culture
- National Portrait Gallery (Obama’s Portrait)
- Newseum
Nightlife
The few times I’ve been out in D. C., I’ve had an amazing time. There are various nightclubs that you can frequent. If you’re not into standing around in clubs, I would suggest trying bars. Popular areas for bars are Adams Morgan, Dupoint Circle, Georgetown, and H Street.
