Okay, let’s get right to it. Life is lifin’ and the world is in complete chaos. Now that we got that out the way, I can tell you that you’re not alone in feeling overwhelmed. Between work, family demands, the constant barrage of negative news, and so on, most everyone is feeling overwhelmed and off balance. You’re not alone, I’m there with you.
First things first, let’s acknowledge the chaos and be aware of how it makes you feel. Don’t try to pretend it’s not there. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed, anxious, or even a little lost. Please know you’re not alone, I’m right there with you fighting to find my version of balance and joy amid the world.
But here’s the good news, you can your balance, even when the world and people around you seem to be spiraling out of control. You can’t control what’s occurring around you, but you can control how you respond and live your life.
Now, let’s talk about finding balance. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution to achieving your perfect state of zen, it’s about finding pockets of peace amidst the chaos, and creating it when you can. From personal experience, I’ve learned I feel the most balanced when I create a routine tailored to my needs. Here are a few things that have helped me and made a positive impact:
- Move your body: Pilates, running, lifting weights, and even a short walk around the block can do wonders. Exercise releases endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects.
- Unplug and recharge: Permit yourself to disconnect from screens. Put your phone down, turn off the TV, and simply be for a while. Even something as simple as limiting your screen time, or getting on and off your electronic devices can have a major impact
- Connect with nature: Spend time outside, and get Vitamin D and fresh air. Walk around your home or apartment, go for a hike, or sit outside to enjoy the fresh air.
- Practice mindfulness: Try a few minutes of mindful breathing or meditation. This can help to calm your mind and bring you back to the present moment.
- Try a new hobby: Learn a new skill or go do something you’ve always wanted to do. This is a great way to shift your focus to something else.
- Find joy in small things: Pay attention to the little things that bring you happiness such as a cup of hot cocoa in the morning, a good book, or a conversation with a loved one.
- Spend time with family or friends: Plan to spend uninterrupted time with loved ones who bring you joy, make you laugh, and love you.
- Show Gratitude: Every day when you wake up and go to bed, share 3 things you’re grateful for. Train your mind to look for the good in every situation and day. Check out this daily gratitude journal to help practice gratitude.
- Get out of the house and have fun: Plan to do things that make you happy and have some fun, whatever that looks like.
And here’s a friendly reminder, you don’t have to do all of this at once. Start small. Maybe it’s just 10 minutes of meditation in the morning, a 30-minute walk during your lunch, or a standing best-friend date with your closest friends.
Pick one thing to focus on and do that one thing. Once you have that thing down, choose another one and go all in. This isn’t about putting a million and one things on your to-do list. It’s more so about implementing things into your routine to make you feel more balanced.
Once I created a routine, I realized I felt way more balanced. Setting morning and night routines, taking regular breaks, planning joy, and moving my body turned my attitude around. I also noticed when I got off my routine, I often felt unbalanced. The more I stuck to my routine, the more balanced and joyful I tended to feel. And even when I got off routine, I still felt good because I had trained my mind to see the good in every day.
Finding balance in a chaotic world is an ongoing journey, so buckle up buttercup. There will be days when you feel like you have a handle on things, and there will be days when you feel like you’re barely making it. As long as you do the best you can, you are doing a GREAT job!!
The most important thing is to keep trying and find ways to bring yourself back to the center.
